It’s amazing how one little word can create action and even enthusiasm! Take a word like “up” for example. Combine it with another word and it can illicit action and enthusiasm! As we prepare to enter into the second month of 2009, it might be helpful to consider some Daily Rules and Scriptures for the rest of 2009!
1. Wake Up! Get out of bed and choose every day to have a good day. "Today is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalms 118:24
2. Dress Up! The absolute best way for each of us to dress up is to put on a smile! It is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. “The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance; but the Lord; looks at the heart.” I Samuel 16:7 (By the way, we’ll begin taking candid pictures for our new pictorial directory beginning Feb. 15, so practice you’re smiling!)
3. Shut Up! Learn to truly listen to those around you. It is a precious gift. As the old saying goes, God gave us two ears and one mouth for good reason, so we can listen twice as much as we talk! “He who guards his lips guards his soul.” Prov. 13:3
4. Stand Up!… for what you believe in! We must stand for something or we will fall for everything. That’s one reason we’re sold on The Truth Project – we must understand and live according to a biblical world view. “Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good…” Gal. 6:9-10.
5. Look Up!!!... to our Lord Jesus Christ! Remember, “I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil. 4:13
6. Reach Up!... For something Higher. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.” Prov. 3:5-6
7. Lift Up!... Your prayers. “Do not worry about anything; instead PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING!” Phil. 4:6
Thanks for ALL you do for Christ and First Church! It’s going to be an amazing year as we Trust God in new ways!
I’ll see you Sunday for Holy Communion and Explore First Church!
Yours in Christ,
