Day of Prayer

Mark McAdowTomorrow is an historic day in America. I wish I could say I’m excited about the reason it is an historic day, but I cannot. It is a Day of Prayer. You may be thinking, wait a minute…don’t you believe in prayer, Pastor Mark? Don’t you preach that we should become a prayer saturated church? Absolutely! But only prayer directed, inspired and offered to The One True God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Tomorrow is an historic day in America. Thousands of people are scheduled to gather for prayer in our nation’s capitol, Washington D.C. I myself have gathered for prayer on The National Mall several years ago in a Promise Keeper’s Event. It was very inspiring and a great blessing for all gathered. But tomorrow’s gathering is not a Christian prayer event.

Muslims across America are gathering to offer prayers to their god Allah. As American citizens, they have every right to gather; after all we believe in free assembly and freedom of religion. Our nation was founded on these great principles and so many more because our Founding Fathers looked to God and His Holy Word for inspiration and direction. On an Islamic website, Islamoncapitolhill.com, this advertised event begins with the phrase “In the Name of Allah” and concludes with these words, “Our Time Has Come!” I don’t know how that impacts you, but it sends chills up my spine.

How should we as Christians respond? Some Christians will be in Washington, D. C. tomorrow to pray for Muslims to come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior, others will attempt to engage Muslims in spiritual conversations – some may even try to disrupt the event. What can we do here in Oklahoma? We can pray and I believe we must! Will you join me in prayer for America tomorrow? Wherever you are – take some time to pray to the One True God in a spirit of humility and repentance for what we’ve allowed America to become. Pray for our Christian witness to be strong and powerful. Pray for the lies of The Enemy to be exposed in every false religion. Pray for our President and national leaders as well. President Obama virtually ignored our National Day of Prayer on May 7. How will he respond to tomorrow’s gathering? After all, he told CBS News in June 2007 that “Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation – at least, not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a nation of non-believers.” I always thought we were “One Nation under God” not several “nations.” Our time has come. As Christians, we must pray as we’ve never prayed before for our country.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14

Looking forward to being with you this Sunday!

Yours in Christ,
Mark

P.S. Frank and Donna Sisson shared with me about a movement across America to pray for our nation for at least 10 minutes every day. You may want to join them as well!

Thanks Mark. Our country was founded on Christianity
and we won't let them take that away from us. Down through the history of the church the more it has been persecuted the more it has grown stronger. Praise the Lord.
