Family Friendly Movie

Secrets of the MountainFamily Night, this Friday, April 16th, at your place!

I just learned about a great action-packed family-friendly movie debuting tomorrow night at 7:00pm CT on NBC. Here’s an excerpt from a letter I received from the American Family Association, founded by United Methodist Pastor, Donald Wildmon. I’d encourage you to pop some corn and enjoy the movie with family and friends. Some of our Small Groups might even want to gather together for this event!

Walmart, P&G, produce family-friendly film for TV. Watch 'Secrets of the Mountain'

Dear Mark,

It's not often we have good news to announce regarding television programming. I'm excited to tell you that Walmart and Procter & Gamble have joined in an effort to produce a rare milestone - a family friendly movie on prime-time TV this Friday evening (April 16), on NBC at 8pm/7pm Central.

Secrets of the Mountain is the debut product in Walmart's Family Moments campaign. It is not a Christian film, but it promotes wholesome family values in a positive manner, has no objectionable content and is totally family-friendly. A Wall Street Journal article in February reported that Procter & Gamble spent more than $4.5 million to produce the film and Walmart purchased rights to be the presenting sponsor.

This two-hour action/adventure film focuses on a single mother who takes her family to visit a mountain cabin she has inherited from an eccentric uncle. But when they arrive, they quickly learn that the mountain is much more than it seems. It's an edge-of-the-seat thriller that reminds us that when times are tough, families don't run away from their problems - they run back to each other. As the story unfolds, the characters display positive traits such as honesty and perseverance - things that are important to pass on to our children. This movie is action-packed and well-produced. It evokes images of Indiana Jones style adventure. (Watch the trailer.)

The Bible reminds us it is very important what we do with our eyes. Job said, “I have made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl” (Job 31:1). The Psalmist wrote, “I will set before my eyes no vile thing” (Ps. 101:3) and “Turn my eyes away from worthless things, preserve my life according to your word.”(Ps. 119:37). Jesus said the eye is the lamp of the body. With a few rare exceptions; there’s not a lot on mainstream television worth watching. Let’s all support those shows and sponsors that do!

Looking forward to sharing with you this Sunday. Life is hard, but God is good!

Yours in Christ,
Mark

P.S. The National Memorial Service is this Monday, April 19, at 9:00am. First Church is the alternate site in case of rain.

Heather and I will be busy at that time so we will DVR it. I saw the trailer for this movie the other day on TV and was actually shocked. Praise God for a new start to re-organize our television stations and media!!
