The Ministry of Friday Night Alive here at First Church is truly Amazing. At the end of this February we will be One Year old!! It just does not seem possible. Let me share some of the things we have been doing and also and most importantly what our Lord is doing.
Through this last year we have been forming a wonderful team. Patricia Meyers is my most endearing prayer partner and amazing help to me every Friday Night. I could not have done it with out her. My husband Tom is also there keeping watch over the flock!! Then there's our excellent cook Cary McClellen, Then there is Richard who assists Cary in the kitchen what a huge blessing for Cary. Then on the sound board we have Dayon Martin, this is such a big part of the Ministry and so vital for the Holy Spirit. Then there is Juan, David and Larry (Pops) and others that are getting involved and are there every Friday Night. There is also Michael Davis who always drops in to see that "all" is going well. Thank you Michael! It is so very exciting!
Through this winter we have given out sleeping bags, coats, hats, and gloves. I purchase these at Academy where they give us a very generous discount. Then there are a couple of families that have given clothes and shoes that have blessed many. For in the Winter time layers are very important when you are living on the street and are trying to keep warm. The other factor that enters into the Homeless Community in downtown OKC is when you have no money you do not have a way of washing these clothes.
What I do on Friday nights is with a little variety. I try and show a movie once a month and usually it is a comedy, we usually serve pizza or hamburgers on that night. So far we have had two parties and the last being at Christmas!! We had fun, all 98 of us. Great food, Christmas cookies, and yes presents for each and everyone. The week before the party I showed the movie "The Nativity" and kept everyone's attention. At most movies it is hard for them to sit still that long but the Spirit was moving that night:):). Yea God.
Then there are nights that when I feel led, I let them share! What a blessing. I always come away being ministered to myself. They have much to share and most all times with much sincerity and honest hearts.
Then on the other nights I teach the Word. We first always have a time of Praise and Worship, for God inhabits our praise. This month I am teaching each week on our Mission Statement which is Isaiah 61:1-3 but we will study the entire chapter verse by verse. Last week was a new beginning for FNA. After the teaching our prayer time was very special. When I call for prayer Patricia and I always pray together for those who come forward. The Holy Spirit was so very near and touching the lives and many needs of these of precious ones.
I am very humbled that the Lord would even consider me to minister to these precious ones. I count it such a privilege and honor.
Please come and see what the Lord is doing you will go away very blessed.
In Christ,
Mary Walbert
