For all of you in worship last Sunday, you know we ended the worship service with a most powerful song called, “God of This City.” I thought Ben Hill did a good job leading us in worship and shared a helpful word at looking at our past with appreciation and moving forward with anticipation! When I first heard this song; I fell in love with its vision. I asked for us to sing it last week as we were challenged to be filled with the power of the Holy Sprit so we can be faithful witnesses! How are you doing with the 3 questions I left you?
- When was the last time you had a lost person in your home?
- How many meaningful conversations did you have with non-Christians this week? What are their names?
- Who are the nonbelievers you prayed for today?
I’m convinced Jesus is still asking, “Can I get a witness?” Will we as a church family be faithful witnesses for Him? I’m sure it will require more from us to be faithful! I also believe the Spirit will help us incredibly as we are available to HIM!
Here are the words to "God of this City":
You’re the God of this City
You’re the King of these people
You’re the Lord of this nation
You are
You’re the Light in this darkness
You’re the Hope to the hopeless
You’re the Peace to the restless
You are
There is no one like our God
There is no one like our God
For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this City
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this City
The story behind this song is awesome. God gave it to a Christian worship band leader Aaron Boyd from Belfast and his group, Bluetree, as they were singing in Thailand at a city known as one of the “sex trafficking capitols of the world.” Prostitutes met their clients in a brothel/bar called “The Climax Bar.” The management was looking for a band to play and sing, so Bluetree took the job. They were told they could keep playing as long as their friends kept ordering and drinking Cokes. Since most people spoke Thai and they were singing in English – few knew they were singing worship songs in the heart of Satan’s territory. They were given two hours to worship and sing. As they did, God began to give this prophetic song and great promise…
“For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this city
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this city.”
I believe this song is a prophetic word about many cities including Oklahoma City!
God is up to something at First Church. Lean into Him and receive ALL He has for you!
Yours in Christ,
Mark
P.S.World renowned worship leader/song writer Charlie Hall and his band will be with us this week leading worship. Be sure to greet anyone you don’t know with a great warm First Church welcome! Blessings!
