My son is 2 ½ years old now, his name is Jacob, and if you’re a parent then you already know he’s in to everything. He loves to explore and see things for the first time and then the second time and again and again and again. In fact I think one of his favorite words is “again.” They never seem to get enough of something once they find out how great it is. However… it takes a little effort at times in order to get him to try something new. Another one of his favorite phrases is “I can’t.” That phrase makes me want to show him that he can indeed do whatever it is we’re trying to get him to do. And so… I try my hardest to entice him into trying that something new until he finally does it. Then once he does it he loves it and it’s a new non-stop activity. Lately my wife and I have been trying to get him to dunk his entire head under water while we’re swimming but… you guessed it… “I can’t” comes out of his mouth and no head goes under the water. Recently I’ve decided to start telling him that He can and that we shouldn’t say “I can’t” until we’ve tried it. I’ll update you when he finally does put that entire head of fluffy hair under the water but for now it makes me realize something…
From the very beginning we develop this attitude of “I can’t” when in fact God is saying to us, “Yes, you can.” We have a tendancy to feel as though we’ll never be good enough. Maybe we don’t think we could ever be a great husband or father. Or maybe you feel like you’ll never be a good enough wife or mother. Maybe you’ve felt like a failure your entire life because you could never please your parents while you were growing up. Perhaps you look to what you’ve done in the past, and you’re ashamed, and you say to yourself, “I’ll never be good enough to be a real Christian.” I’m not sure what it is for you but I would like to challenge you this week to take a look at yourself and ask the questions, “Where do I feel like ‘I can’t?’” or “Where in my life do I feel like I’ll never be good enough?” That’s the first challenge; the second challenge is to give up and let God. That’s it… just let God do what He does. Remember 3 things this week… you can do whatever it is you feel like you can’t do because God says, you are called by Christ, you are capable through Christ and you are complete in Christ. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.” 2 Peter 1:3 says, “His divine power has given us everything we need…” and Colossians 2:9-10 states the following: “For in Christ the fullness of God lives in a human body, and you are complete through your union with Christ.”
The lie is, “You’ll never be good enough.” -Satan-
The truth is, “You have everything you need in me (Christ) and you are good enough.” -Jesus-
