Pray for President Obama

Mark McAdow“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”  (I Timothy 2:1-4)

God’s Word directs us to pray for those in authority over us including, but not limited to our bosses, pastors, teachers, public officials and for Americans, the President. I must admit that it is easier to pray for some than others. It shouldn’t be; but it is. What I am about to write is personal. The thoughts don’t necessarily represent First Church or the United Methodist Church. They are sincere and heartfelt. I believe we have a President who is deceived by Satan. I do not believe he is an evil man, but I do believe he is blinded by sin and is being used for evil purposes. We each are sinners, but those of use who are Christians acknowledge that fact and seek forgiveness for our sins. That’s change we can count on, because God is doing the changing, while we cooperate with Him.

Last June, President Obama became the first U.S. President to proclaim June as Gay and Lesbian Pride month in America. With his Presidential declaration, he gave his personal stamp of approval on the homosexual lifestyle, as well as his backing of this radical movement in America. This past week he said these words at a National Gay meeting:

“You may remember that I pledged then that even at a time when we faced enormous challenges on the economy and in our foreign policy that we would not put aside matters of basic equality. And we haven't. ...I [made sure] that any hospital that's participating in Medicare or Medicaid... [would] allow gay and lesbian partners the same privileges and visitation rights as straight partners... I've issued an executive order to extend as many partnership benefits to gay and lesbian federal employees as possible under current law. And I'm going to continue to fight to change the law... And in an announcement today, the Department of Labor made clear that under the Family and Medical Leave Act, same-sex couples--as well as others raising children--are to be treated like the caretakers that they are... We are pushing hard to pass an inclusive employee non-discrimination bill... And finally, we're going to end "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"... We have never been closer to ending this discriminatory policy. And I'm going to keep on fighting until that bill is on my desk and I can sign it. “

This is not about equality – no one is against that – it is a movement to undermine marriage between one man and one woman and to “mainstream” a perverse and destructive lifestyle. God created and ordained marriage not man and He alone has the right to define it. Please hear me, in my opinion our President is misguided at best, and being used as a tool by homosexual activists to further their social agenda at worst. He is rejecting the views of his own military leadership and the majority of Americans concerning “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and has also promised to overturn DOMA which defines marriage as between one man and one woman, that he said represented his views during his interview with Rick Warren during the Presidential campaign. He also included “two dads” in his list of dads mentioned for Father’s Day. His position is very clear. Please join me in praying for our President that he may know the truth and that the truth will set him free (John 8:32).

This has nothing to do with political affiliation or my love for those struggling with homosexuality. I disagreed with President Bush when he said Christians, Jews and Muslims all pray to the same God and I disagree with President Obama in this respect now. America needs our prayers more than ever! On July 4th, we’ll take some specific time in worship to pray for our nation and her leaders. God bless you all!

Yours in Christ,
Mark

Thanks you, Pastor.

I agree it is difficult to pray for some Presidents, but I join with you in this prayer.

Thank you for speaking out on this issue. I feel that God put it in your heart to share your feelings with your congregation. Sometimes I do not speak out when I should for fear of offending others, but these things need to be made clear when they concern God's Word.
I believe there are many others who are hesitant to speak out, but I also believe that the time is coming when we must, or lose our Christian way of life. I pray that we will have the courage to do so.

I agree 100%. God does not hate gays/lesbians; He just hates their perverted and sick lifestyle/behaviors. We should not treat gays/lesbians with hatred, violence, etc but we must as a church make it known that their lifestyle/behaviors are not compatible with the Christian life and their right to live free from violence, etc does not extend to forcing their sick and perverted behaviors down our throats. We must stand as a church and forcefully counter the message of gay activists.

Wow! If these thoughts "don't necessarily represent First Church or The United Methodist Church" maybe they should not be on the First United Methodist Church web site. Do you have your own blog Rev.Mark? Is being homosexual the only things we know of that isn't compatible w/the Christian lifestyle? No Christian has ever killed anyone, committed adultry, had a child out of wedlock, loved money more than God. Hello? We have because we are all human. If you are going to pick a sin, don't just pick one, pick them all! We are all sinners! Church is for sinners. Forgiveness and grace and mercy are all in my Bible. And I am very thankful my God has shown me much forgiveness and grace and mercy over the years. But I also know His wrath, and don't think that only homosexuals are the ones who will be judged, those of US who think we know how to be like Jesus, but then make the mistake of judging complete strangers will also be judged, and I fear for all of US in that sense. What's that BIBLE verse? "Let he who has never sinned cast the first stone...", or something? There are sick and elderly and veterans, AND children in the United States who have no homes, food, and/or medical care, and this is what Christians are focusing on right now? Maybe a little less judgement and bit more compassion. WE are Christians, after all.

Thank you Pastor for preaching and teaching the truth of God's Holy Word.
Holiness is agreeing with God. God's word is truth.
