Friends, I’ve not every used my Faithful Witness blog to ask you to pray for a specific member of our church family, but today I am. I believe in the power of prayer as I know you do. Today one of our families has a very specific prayer need.
I want to invite you to stop your temporal activity for a few moments to engage in the most important spiritual activity and intercede today for Shannon Wrights. David and Shannon are active and faithful members of First Church along with their children Alissa, Sarah and Ray. They just happen to be one of the families listed for prayer in our worship folder this week. They are also active members of one of our longest running First Church Small Groups – the Light Community Group.
Shannon has suffered from an early age with serious eyesight issues which makes it impossible for her to drive. She is a gifted dance instructor, specializing in working with special needs kids. She is their greatest fan and cheerleader. My girls, as well as many other First Church kids and youth, have participated in her Dance Camps with great benefit and blessing.
Last Thursday Shannon went to the Dean McGee Eye Institute for surgery for a partial cornea and lens implant in her left eye. As we waited for the surgery her doctor, Dr. Stone, explained the process and the 5% chance it would not “bond” the first time. Though all seemed to go well it indeed did not bond. We went back on Monday for the exact same procedure. Dr. Stone performed the surgery with unfortunately the same results. Today (Thursday) at 1:45pm Shannon will return for the third attempt. We pray “third times a charm!” Her spirits are very good, though obviously there has been great disappointment. Please pray with us for Shannon, Dr. Stone, and those who will be attending her today and seek God’s mercy in bringing Shannon the healing she desires and believes God has promised to her. Remember the words of Jesus in Matt. 6:22, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.” We want Shannon to enjoy the best eyesight possible!
I thank you from my heart for your prayers for Shannon today. This is what it means to be the family of God and the Body of Christ. First Church is a great family! May you too be blessed as you pray.
Yours in Christ,
Mark
P.S. Just a reminder we can also make a difference this Sunday for people needing blood during these crucial summer months by taking time to donate a pint of blood during the Blood Drive in Harris Hall. If you’re able, please join us! Thanks.
