Seek Ye First

Kirk NormanAnybody out there feeling the heat? When we gathered this past Sunday we talked about the distractions that the devil will use to keep us from thinking about Christ first in our lives. I believe the devil is using the current heat wave to distract us from remembering that God is always in charge.

The scripture text that I remember was when the disciples in the boat said, “Who is this man, that even the wind and the seas obey him.” (Mark 4). I find myself often trying to discern who is in charge. It seems to me it is when I think I am in charge that I get myself into the deepest trouble. When it comes to doing the laundry at my house, I can quickly get into trouble thinking that I know what I am doing.

I need to constantly be reminded to look to Christ first in all things. That is the very intent of the sermon last week; to do anything in life well we must be focused on the One who does all things well. All things can become a distraction, even those things which we cherish, if we get the order of things mixed up. “Seek first the kingdom of God” (Matt 6). As we move into the fall football season it is easy for us to be distracted by the little “g” gods which consume so much of our thought, conversation, time, and energy. Even as we find ourselves being “fan”atics, let us seek the big “G” in all things. The winning and the losing will take care of itself.

On the journey together,
Kirk

Thanks for your comments Kirk, and the reminder to seek first the Kingdom of God, especially during football season. I live all year for the first OU and Dallas Cowboys games. If I don't watch it they can become to important to me.
I needed your comments to keep me focused on the important things of life.

I missed last Sunday and was wondering, will you be preaching again this Sunday?

Your sermons are always so good and practical. I think it is important to hear messages that are applicable to our every day lives. Also to realize that others have life problems, too, and we are not alone in this journey through time. We just have to remember the ONE who is always at our side and acknowledge His presence by allowing Him to direct our way.
Thanks for all you are and all you do!!
