Thanks, Laura!

For over a quarter of a century, 28 years to be exact, Laura Alfonzo has served faithfully at First Church as our Director of Communications. It’s been my privilege to serve Christ with her these last three years at First Church. She has done an outstanding job!

Earlier this summer she indicated to me her plan to leave the First Church Staff in order to work with her husband, Gus, in their family business. Something he has wanted her to do for some time! We will certainly miss Laura’s presence on our staff and her many contributions to the ministry of First Church over the years. Tony Moran affectionately called “Junior” by Laura, will miss his staff “Mama” as well. After all, life is all about relationships!

We wish Laura the very best in her new pursuits and will always be thankful for the many ways she helped us promote the ministries of First Church and captured so many First Church memories on video. She did an excellent job crafting church videos from Holy Week Services, Marathon Ministry, our 120th Anniversary Celebration, and producing announcement videos for Sunday mornings – not to mention our now famous Staff “Office I and II” videos for our Mission’s Talent Show!

Laura always gently reminded me of my Wednesday deadline for my sermon notes and my weekly blog (I would try to avoid walking by her desk on Wednesdays until I had my work done!). She actually did it again today, as she’s still serving us part-time on a contract basis as we seek her replacement.

Bob Hope had a classic song he’d sing that seems most appropriate for Laura from all of us, “Thanks… for the Memories!” Our SPRC will present Laura with a very special gift in the coming week, in appreciation for her service to Christ and First Church. I always tried to end all of my e-mail requests to Laura with two words, “Thanks Laura!” They are truly heartfelt. Blessings!

Yours in Christ’s Love,
Mark

P.S. I hope you’ll take to time to thank Laura as well! See you this Sunday!

To a wonderful lady and dear friend, Laura:
I cannot imagine First Church without you and your precious family. It has been a pleasure all the way!! I have watched and loved you from your first days as a sweet young single, shared your joys as you married Gus and built a beautiful family, all the while becoming a person everyone could depend on to help in whatever needed to be done.
If we could just have a day when we could show all the wonderful work you have done at First Church it would probably boggle people's minds--only those who have shared your 28 years really understand what you have meant to our church. We will miss your beautiful voice as well as the many other contributions you have made through these 28 years. We really should have a "Laura Alfonzo Day" just to celebrate YOU!!
I love you and will miss you and all the good times we have had together. Keep in touch,
Woo
