Thanks for visiting First Church on the web! We are a unique and dynamic fellowship of real people committed to connecting with God, growing in faith, and serving with love. Maybe you’re thinking about visiting First Church, or you’re just curious about church, or God, or what’s going on down here… whatever the reason, please know you’re welcome here!
First Church is not only the name for our congregation; it is who we are. We had our beginning on April 28, 1889, the first Sunday after the Land Run. First Church has remained on the corner of Fourth & Robinson, experiencing continuous growth and expansion, for 117 years.
But on April 19, 1995, our church was tragically vaulted into worldwide attention with the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building. Our defining essence as a church is captured in the stained glass window of our Chapel. Salvaged from the bomb-blasted fragments of April 19, the window places Christ at the center of it all and then declares: “The Lord takes broken pieces and by His love makes us whole.” These words are more than a motto; they are a promise of His grace.
First Church exists to make disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world. It's a big mission, we know, but one we know we can acheive with the power of our great God! Hope abounds at First Church. Our hope is for transformation and change. We not only believe that God loves us just as we are but that He loves us too much to leave us that way! He wants us to become more and more like him and share his love with everyone we meet.
Our desire is that you would find in this church the meaning of that hope through the encouragement of prayer and Word, and the blessing of a community that truly cares. Our prayer is that you will want to become a permanent member of our First Church Family!
