- Mark McAdow
Friends... I have a confession to make. I mentioned on Sunday that I don't like bumper stickers— at least not on my car. (But it's nice to see Pastor Norman doesn't mind putting one on his truck, or should I say, me putting one on his truck while he's out of town—over his Sooners license plate no less!)
I still have memories as a young boy of my Dad ripping off the freshly attached "Visit Royal Gorge" bumper sticker that was attached to our family car in the parking lot—without permission—while we were on the bridge. But I have placed bumper stickers on our 1997 Chevrolet Astro van's bumper to "cover up" evidence of back bumper encounters with our brick mailbox and other fixed objects (ask Robin for details!). I've also been known to place a bumper sticker or two whose message I've deemed helpful. We are approaching the season when we'll see lots of political candidates' bumper stickers everywhere. I even read an article in The Oklahoman recently that described the different type style and colors that are used and what they supposedly symbolize—very interesting!
With the advent of the new First Church bumper sticker, I had a decision to make. Will I place one on my car? If so, why? As I mentioned Sunday, I have several reasons:
1. They look cool.
2. They are really cheap.
3. People do read bumper stickers—I know I do!
4. They serve as a silent witness for Christ.
6. It will help locate First Church members on the road.
6. It will help me drive the speed limit! and...
7. Did I mention they're cheap!
How about you? Are you up to the First Church bumper sticker challenge?
Just for fun, what is your favorite bumper sticker? Send me yours. One of mine is: "If you can read this... you're driving too close!"
Blessings!
Mark
