Roots: The Forgiveness of a Brother

Of all the directives and instructions of Jesus one stands above all the others. It is second in importance only to the command of love, but it is first in the difference it makes in our relationships with others. It has the power to destroy marriages, sour friendships, bankrupt companies, topple nations. No, it is not adultery, or lying, or gossiping, or stealing. I am talking about forgiveness.

Forgiveness was the virtue most lived out by Joseph. Indeed, throughout his life Joseph demonstrated many other qualities like faith, trust, humility, and patience, but in the end forgiveness is what set him apart.

This Sunday at OKC First Church we will conclude our sermon series “Roots: Back to Our Beginnings” as we examine the forgiveness of Joseph. We will explore the depth of Joseph’s forgiveness, how forgiving his brothers changed his family forever, and how the power of forgiveness can extend to generations in our own lives. I hope to see each of you in worship this Sunday at 10:45 at OKC First Church for this very important message of hope and inspiration.

We want to announce that Sunday, August 25, was the last breakfast we will serve at First Church on Sunday mornings. Due to multiple factors, including security concerns, we will no longer be able to provide this ministry to our congregants. Please be watching for other opportunities for Sunday morning fellowship.

The children’s center has implemented a new check-ins system. There are two stations one is an iPad that will be in the Welcome Center to check-in for children’s church and one is a laptop at the front desk in the children’s area to check in during Sunday school. You will have to enter your child(s) information once and then it will save that information so next time that child in checked in you just have to click their name. Parents/guardians will check in there child and then print out a name tag to give the child. The name tags print off a smaller tag that will be given to the children's director or the adult in charge when arrived to pick up child. We are very excited about this new system and we believe it will be safer, easier, and more efficient for everyone.
